VERMICULITE

The latest breaking news is the use of Vermiculite, or trade name Zonolite, as an insulation in homes in Alberta and the West of Canada.

Up to 70% of the mineral used throughout the world was obtained from a mine at Libby Montana USA.   This was sold as an insulation material from the mid 50's to the early 80's   It is now been proven that much of the vermiculite from this Montana mine contained a natural deposit of Tremolite.   Tremolite is an extreme carcinogenic form of asbestos.

If this is found in your proposed new home by your REI inspector we will guide you on action to be taken, including further testing by an environmental health professional company, and possible removal or encapsulation.
